What is Functional Diagnostic Testing?

Functional Diagnostic testing takes the guess work out of nutrition. There are many ways the body can fall out of balance. We offer a range of tests that look at clinical data that analyses your gut health, nutrition, your immune function, the endocrine system, and even your DNA to identify underlying causes of chronic health issues and barriers to optimal wellness.

We give recommendations based on your unique body's needs

Functional Diagnostic Testing Laboratories in the UK have been researching and refining precision health testing for decades. It's this experience that enables us as registered nutritionists to create comprehensive assessments that shed light on 'your individual health status' and make recommendations for changes that will bring your wellness into focus.

Get Answers...... Find the root cause of chronic issues

So many of us these days are used to just managing uncomfortable symptoms. In order to fix the problem you need to get to the root cause of what's causing the issue instead of just papering over the cracks. A good example of this is IBS; a functional disease that is very debilitating for the sufferer. Medically managed with antispasmodics, laxatives, proton pump inhibitors (antacids) and anti diarrhoea medication. We take a different approach by drilling down into the detail of what really going on to cause the imbalance.

'You don't need to suffer in silence any longer. Find out what's really going on in your body. You can take control of your own health'.

Explore a wide array of innovative testing.

From comprehensive panels to individual add-ons, our products are designed to look at each of the body's systems and provide the clinical data to minimize symptoms and maximize health

Tests for Common Problems
Gut-Microbiome (1).jpg
Gut Health

It has been said that 'All disease starts in the gut'.

If you are going to invest in any diagnostic testing. The gut is a very good place to start. Our gut microbiome is as individual as our fingerprints. The microbes in our gut influence our immunity, hormones and even our brain chemistry.

Ultimate Gut Health Test

Our Ultimate Gut Health Test uses a combination of qPCR testing and 16s rRNA sequencing to give comprehensive and extensive insight into gut health, via a non-invasive stool sample.
As our most in-depth gut test, the Ultimate Gut Health Test measures key markers including calprotectin, zonulin and secretory IgA, leaky gut, pathogenic bacteria, worms and absorption markers, to give a full assessment of the microbiome.

Food Intolerance testing

IgG Finger prick Test 120+

Find out if food is contributing to your symptoms using a simple finger-prick test. Our most extensive IgG test is useful if you are suffering from consistent, multiple or severe reactions to food. It uses FoodPrint, a immunoassay microarray technology, to identify food-specific IgG antibodies to over 120 different foods. This gives you accurate information that can be used to adjust your diet and improve a number of health conditions.

Hormonal Health

Hormones have a powerful effect on women's health and emotions. The female body produces several hormones that affect the body in different ways. It is a very finely tuned system that can easily be knocked out of balance with stress and poor diet. There are lots of supportive natural solutions, so finding out your unique hormone status can be very insightful.

Comprehensive Female Hormone Panel

Our Comprehensive Female Hormone Profile provides valuable insight into hormone health at any age. It can help assess whether hormonal imbalances are contributing to your symptoms, such as acne, fatigue, low sex drive, mood changes, hot flushes and weight changes or other related health issues.

By measuring LH (Luteinising Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), LH:FS ratio, Prolactin, Oestradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA-S, SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin)  and Free Androgen Index, our Hormone Profile will help to track your hormone levels if you’re working to bring them back into balance.

Measuring DHEA-S gives an extra level of insight into hormonal health. It impacts testosterone, oestrogen and IGF-1 (Insulin Growth Factor-1), and elevated levels in women can result in amenorrhea, deeper voice, hirsutism, increase in muscle mass and more, while low levels can cause symptoms such as acne, fatigue, low sex drive, mood changes and hot flushes.

Need Oestradiol? You must book a venous blood draw. A venous blood draw is essential to test oestradiol, due to a change stipulated by UKAS (the accreditation body for testing services).

Have some sympathy for men as they go through the change too!

We've all heard of the female menopause - hot flushes, brain fog and irritability experienced by women during middle age caused by a natural drop in oestrogen. Well spare a thought for men because they experience similar symptoms too! The so-called 'male menopause' is a real phenomenon (but don't tell them I told you; next time they are too tired to take the bins out!!).

Male Andropause profile

This Male Andropause Profile hormone test helps to identify a drop in testosterone and DHEA levels, combined with a rise in oestrogen levels. These changes to men’s hormone levels are described as male menopause, known as andropause. By measuring LH (Luteinising Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), DHEA Sulphate, Testosterone, SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin) and Free Androgen Index, our Male Andropause Profile assesses men’s hormonal health, identifying any imbalances. It’s also suitable for anyone who would like to investigate their health for overall wellbeing. Lowered testosterone levels can contribute to symptoms such as mood and weight changes, insomnia, chronic fatigue, brain fog and decreased muscle mass.

Stress & Fatigue Tests

Its normal to feel tired from time to time but fatigue means feeling chronically overtired. Extreme fatigue makes it hard to get up in the morning, go to work, exercise or just make it through the day. There can be easy to explain lifestyle habits that can mediate the condition but diagnostic testing of your adrenal function, micronutrient status and even your energy metabolism DNA can pinpoint focus for nutritional support.

Fatigue Profile

This test is useful for investigating fatigue, dyspnoea (shortness of breath), paraesthesia, joint/muscle pains, fainting or feeling lightheaded, weight gain/loss, alopecia, bruising easily, cognitive issues.

It may be used to understand the effects of heavy or frequent menstruation, or to identify thyroid dysfunction, including hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

It is useful for monitoring client progress with diagnosis of B12 deficiency, iron deficiency or anaemia, and vitamin D deficiency.

A useful test as a regular MOT, it is also suitable for anyone who would like to investigate their health for overall wellbeing.

Adrenal Cortisol/DHEA Stress Test

Useful for those who experience energy fluctuations or chronic tiredness, our Adrenal Fatigue Test assesses adrenal insufficiency and fatigue. The test is done by measuring the cortisol and DHEA levels in saliva samples, taken at five separate points throughout the day.

Organic Acids Test

This Thyroid Profile with Antibodies measures the main Thyroid Hormones (Free T3, Free T4, Total T4 and TSH) and Thyroid Antibodies (Thyroglobulin and Thyroid Peroxidase), all of which give a detailed understanding of how well the thyroid works, and whether there is any indication of autoimmunity.

This panel uses a finger prick blood sample to help investigate a potential thyroid disorder (such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, goitres or thyroid nodules) and the risk of developing a thyroid-related autoimmune condition (such as Hashimoto’s disease, Graves’ disease or autoimmune thyroiditis) in order to guide and monitor treatment protocols.

Are you getting enough?

Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals needed by the body in very small amounts. However, their impact on the body's health are critical and deficiency in any of them can be linked to a variety of physical and psychological conditions.

Blueberry-Dixi.jpg

This straightforward urine test is useful for confirming possible imbalances that can contribute to chronic illnesses, neural disorders and allergies.

Through measuring metabolic byproducts, this great all-round test evaluates intestinal yeast and bacteria, vitamin and hormone metabolism, energy cycle function, intestinal wall integrity, nutritional deficiencies and fatty acid metabolism.

The results can then be used to guide appropriate and helpful nutritional and supplemental changes, to improve a number of health conditions.

This test requires one urine sample to be collected first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking.

Please note, the price of this test includes a DHL home collection and shipping to Mosaic Diagnostic (formerly known as Great Plains) in the USA where the sample is processed.

Advanced Iron Profile

More than just your regular NHS test.

This finger prick blood test identifies and monitors iron excess or deficiency, as well as sex hormones and B12, which can contribute to issues such as low energy, low libido, weight changes and mood fluctuations.

The profile assesses levels of iron, ferritin, UIBC (Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity), TIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity) and transferrin saturation, as well as folate and active B12. It also assesses levels of oestradiol, progesterone, SHBG and testosterone.

Vitamin D status Test
Sunflower_edited.jpg

Our simple at-home finger prick test will help you to keep track of vitamin D status, and specifically 25-hydroxy vitamin D, the main circulating form. This is considered the best indicator of vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D deficiency symptoms can include fatigue, poor immunity, mood and sleep disturbances and general aches and pains. Vitamin D deficiency is common in the UK, and can lead to imbalances in various systems, including the immune, nervous, reproductive, cellular, and cardiovascular if left untreated.

If deficiency is found, a follow-up test is recommended to monitor blood levels of vitamin D three months after beginning therapy.
