Her story in her words...

As a seventies child I remember the ‘good old days’ of fresh fruit from the greengrocers, fresh fish from the fish market and meat from the local butchers all wrapped in brown paper. Everyone cooked ‘wholefoods’, nanny made plum crumbles and mums legendary homemade apple pie had no artificial additives in sight. I remember the cosy cold winters mornings being woken to the sound of the gentle clink of glass bottles and the whirr of the electric milk float as the milkman delivered our fresh milk. We had fish and chips on a Friday and a glass of Corona lemonade to wash it down. Not nutritionally perfect but portion sizes were small and I never felt full.

Obesity wasn’t as prevalent, until the eighties and the introduction of processed convenience foods, fishfingers, chips, pizzas, frozen jacket potatoes were on the menu; along with the daily treat of both Angel delight and KitKats. I remember having my first McDonalds at age 12 and experiencing indigestion for the first time; guzzling down a strawberry milkshake following a cheeseburger meal, I was terrified as didn’t know what was happening!

I have dual British/Australian citizenship and after leaving school the sunshine beckoned me. At age 18 I travelled to my relatives in Perth, an ambition I had had since I watched the first episode of neighbours. I enrolled on a nutrition and Health Science course upon arrival and worked part time at the West Australian Newspaper in the feature department. I had the idea of being a Food and Health feature writer.
Over the next 20 years I worked in the Whole food and heath supplement industry both in Australia and in the UK with close family on both sides of the globe. I studied a BSc in Nutritional Therapy at Thames Valley University in 2007 and then went on to study an masters in public Health Nutrition. These courses further consolidated my belief in getting to the root cause of disease and the power of nutrition in reversing chronic disease. After 5 years working for the NHS Australia called once more. Naturopathic Medicine is more mainstream in Australia and I had the opportunity to build my knowledge working on the Northern Beaches as a Territory Manager and trainer for a leading complementary medicine company. When back in the UK, I worked for two of the leading supplement companies, Holland & Barrett and Viridian Nutrition as a Nutrition advisor and blog writer. It was during this period I also qualified as a Naturopathic Nutritionist at The College of Naturopathic Medicine in London.
In 2018 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, it was an unexpected shock. As most do, I questioned myself why me? I was told it was just one of those things, I underwent a double mastectomy and I was pressurised by well-meaning doctors and family members to have Chemotherapy as an ‘insurance policy’. The cut, poison and burn approach just didn't seem right to inflict on my already tired body. However, I felt railroaded and relented. I did refuse the radiotherapy and hormone therapy as after doing my own research on the side effects I decided to take my chances and substitute pharmaceuticals with herbs and targeted nutrition. There was no direction from the healthcare system on how to build my immune system up after it had been annihilated but fortunately I could draw on my close network of Naturopaths, Herbalists to repair any post treatment damage and Spiritual Healer Shakti Devi whose meditations lifted my soul and healed my trauma.

I worked with a Chinese Herbal Medicine doctor, a fasting coach, and did a lot of work on healing past trauma/emotional pain, as well as meditation and weekly remedial massage to ease the chemotherapy inflammation. I experienced first hand the healing power of herbs and an anti-inflammatory diet and I regained my strength. I discovered I had a PalB2 gene defect and after doing my research it was apparent that I had been suffering with oestrogen dominance all my life and most probably being put on the oestrogen pill at 46 triggered my breast cancer!
After fully recovering I gained a newfound sense of purpose to help others who were looking for answers too. I now run my own clinic and present educational workshops to both private and Corporate groups alongside part-time coaching of the National Diabetes Prevention Programme for the NHS. I am licensed to work with UK regulated Diagnostic Testing laboratories who offer a range of functional tests individual to you and not available on the NHS. This detailed analysis of your gut health, endocrine system, neurotransmitters and even your DNA enable me to tailor you a personalised nutrition plan that is both targeted and evidenced based.
